So I got thinking...

So my step brother's Netflix came in (no clue why since he's back in Nebraska), and we got A.I: Artificial Intelligence and the first live-action Death Note film. Knowing me, which one did you think me and Marina would watch? Death Note of course. It's one of the few animes my sister actually likes, yet the movie disappointed her from the acting and English dubbing, but I kept watching anyway.

I may include like a crap ton of spoilers so if you wish to watch Death Note before reading this madness, you may leave if you wish so... Spoiler alert!

For those who aren't familiar with what Death Note is, it follows university student Light Yagami who has a great amount of intellect but is bored and tired of the corruption and crime he has to live in. He has even hacked into his father's work files to discover that criminals were let go from their charges. Furious and just plain bored, he discovers a notebook lying on the ground labeled "Death Note". As you can see to the right of the screen, there's even a manual how to use it. Should explain the basics.

With nothing better to do, Light takes this notebook home and experiments if it works by writing down the names of two criminals, both of which die of heart attacks (one literally in front of him). Eventually, after killing loads of criminals, a god of death named Ryuk comes to visit him as he is the original owner of the Death Note and just dropped it on Earth out of sheer boredom and became interested in Light's odd sense of justice.

Because of criminals dropping dead like flies from heart attacks, people begin to believe that it is some sort of god who they call Kira who is passing judgement on the wicked and evil. This begins major debates if Kira is a savior or just another cold-hearted criminal like the ones he kills. Light enjoys his fame with a goal to create a utopia without corruption and death and essentially become God in this new world.

Despite his intentions, he goes kinda overboard with the killings and grabs the attention of the Japanese Task Force (where his own father works!) as they realize that these deaths aren't coincidence or even natural. They begin to work with a famous detective simply known as L. As they slowly close in on Light being their prime suspect, everything turns as unexpected plot twists and such that keep Light a step ahead of the Task Force and L.

Now without really thinking, if you were given a power or someone had this power and was using it, would you support the killing of criminals who probably deserve it? I'm pretty sure many of us would say yes without truly giving it a second thought. Some get away with their crimes without serving time and some people think criminals have committed something so cruel that being in prison for life or sitting on death row isn't enough. It appears that our justice system isn't being fair to those affected by these people. Why not just kill them right away and have them suffer for what they've done?

But we have that justice system to maintain society and democracy and not have everything fall into anarchy. If we just ruthlessly get rid of every criminal no matter what they did, would that make our government any better than murderers? And what if these criminals are really falsely charged or are truly sorry of what they've done? I know it's hard to forgive these people but they're still human nonetheless. I watched a show about a woman who was accused by her own children of manipulating them to murder their step father and they showed her being interviewed and not only did she still have her wedding band still on, but she was crying and claiming that her children were lying. And I saw the exact same story on a different show where they displayed her as a manipulative woman who doesn't give a crap about anyone but herself. But I'm getting off topic. No matter how much we can't really forgive criminals or how unfair the judicial system is at times, it is what it is and we have to move on no matter how painful it is.

But I digress (by the way this is where the spoilers start).

In the first episode of Death Note, Ryuk mentions to Light that once all the murderers and convicts are gone, the only murderer in the world left would be Light himself. Eventually as the anime progresses, Light becomes more sloppy with his planning and just kills anyone who gets in his way, even characters of the main cast and his supporters! Yes, he grows supporters who get Death Notes themselves and do some of the dirty work for him. He has absolutely no sympathy for anyone who gets in his way and becomes a total sociopath.

In the end, he turns into a complete mess and grows a bit of a god complex and loses himself; he gets his sister traumatized, gets his father killed, kills his own girlfriend using the Death Note to have her burn herself to death, one of his followers stabs himself in the gut with a pen, Light himself is shot multiple times and is later killed by Ryuk via Death Note and his other girlfriend was implied to have committed suicide a year later! Even when he's on his last legs, Light is reflecting back to when he first picked up the Death Note years before and what his first intentions were.

Light had a great start, but with all that power in his hands, he thought he could do anything. Sure getting rid of the evil in the world sounds great, but c'mon, you gotta have some limits. Light wasn't just any university student; he had brains and eventually came up with bizarre but creative ways to kill people instead of solely using heart attacks. All of the fame, popularity and trouble with the police got to his head as he went mad with that power. He was willing to kill anyone (or have someone else do the killing) in order to create his "perfect utopia". Now is it me or is Light kinda sounding like a totalitarian leader like Hitler or Stalin? With the way his plans are coming out as the series is drawing to its end it sure sounds like it. He becomes insane and does whatever he want to achieve his goals no matter what. That insanity made him screw up a lot and eventually led to his death.

Self-control is the key to success. Without that self-control, failure is inevitable.

Chim Chiminy Chim Chiminy Chim Chim Cheree

So I was watching Mary Poppins yesterday and this came to me as I was watching the Step in Time dance scene. What if it was done as a flash mob?! I looked up on Youtube and the only Mary Poppins flash mob I've seen was in Germany or something to the Broadway version of Supercalifragilisticexpialidoscious. But here's the full scene if no one has memory of the Step in Time scene.

Now would that be a cool flash mob or what?! You'd just need the perfect time and place to do it since quite a number of people would be needed to dance to this particular song. But it'd be amazing and fun!

Anyway my vacation is drawing to a close and it's mostly just been pure laziness. I still have Algebra 2 homework to do which is super easy anyway and I finished my Spanish stuff.

My mom's birthday party was yesterday and I still find it hard to believe that she is turning 41 on Tuesday. We had friends over and we gorged ourselves with cake and tacos. And boy that was some good cake! I will be enjoying the sweetness of that cake tonight.

And today we had a rehearsal though everyone went to the band room because some people were still working with lights. That didn't keep me from helping with set building... sorta. I was left for an hour and half with no help because the two guys I'm working with forgot and slept in. Luckily I spent that time painting a palm tree since I can't do much else. Add on to that, we're running out of plywood and some of the paint we have is as old as time itself and we can't use it. It doesn't help that we're falling behind because there are only 19 rehearsal days left, barely anyone else shows up and the two guys I do work with mess around which is slowly decreasing my patience with them... Hopefully the people I call tonight will actually show up to help us, or maybe this week the guys I'm working with will pick up the slack and stop goofing off. Ugh, I can dream can't I?

Well that's all for now folks. Keeping my fingers crossed that this will be a good week.

XOXO,
Liz

Thoughts of a Teenage Mind

I've been having some thoughts go through my head for a couple days so I thought I'd let them out here.

Last week, we lost a music icon known as Whitney Houston. Honestly I didn't know who she was until she died (which has disappointed my mother as she has raised me with 80's music). What I do know is that she had a ton of problems with cocaine. Now I'm seeing stuff like she had water in her lungs when she died and all this other crazy crap that she may have been abusing some medication. It's just a mess.

What really makes me sad is when stuff like this happens; a celebrity dies from drug abuse. To be honest, it doesn't really shock me anymore that we have famous people drop like flies abusing harmful substances. I mean, let me just make a list here.
1. John Belushi- Cocaine, morphine and heroin mixed
2. Kurt Cobain- Shot himself cause he was messed up on heroin
3. Chris Farley- Cocaine and morphine overdose
4. Judy Garland- Overdosed ("accidentally") on sedatives
5. Michael Jackson- Cardiac arrest from overdosing on anesthesia medicine(Though you could argue it was the doctor's fault for giving him those[which is kinda my argument] but I won't get into that)
6. Anna Nicole Smith- Overdosed on sedatives (She was taking so much crap and was SO messed up in the head)
7. Marilyn Monroe- ANOTHER sedative overdose
8. Heath Ledger- Overdosed on insomnia, anxiety, and depression prescription medicine
9. Amy Winehouse- Alcohol poisoning (not to mention she messed up her body with all the crack she took)

That's just nine out of the many celebrities who died from taking such harmful substances. And now Whitney Houston's gone the same way. I mean really? You think people would learn from this and would never dream of doing crap like this yet they do it anyway! What drives these people to make such crappy decisions and just kick the bucket? Look at John Belushi. Hilarious guy! Famous on SNL! He even did a skit as an old man and his friends died before him which is kinda ironic seeing as how he was the first among his friends to die.

Kurt Cobain. Great musician and all but he was so messed up on the stuff he just couldn't take it and shot himself! That just brings me to tears when these people are in so much pain that they can't find any way out and they kill themselves. Un. Freaking. Believable. That's the most tragic way for someone to die is to be in so much pain and not have anyone or anything to help you.

Another shocking thing is celebrities you never expect to die from overdosing. EVER. Chris Farley was funny as hell and he was on cocaine! You'd never think a guy like that would be stupid enough to take that crap but he did! I'd never suspect the actress who played sweet, sweet Dorothy to ever overdose on sedatives but she did. And I'd NEVER think Michael Jackson had insomnia issues and was taking such powerful drugs when he died (again won't go into details about his doctor and crap).

I guess it just proves that these people go through really huge struggles with themselves but they're so good at hiding it. They have to hide who they really are and what they're going through and don't get any help.

Now there are some stars that make it pretty obvious they're not okay in the head. Anna Nicole Smith. There was a big mess. She had her own show for some time and one would think that she needed help because it was that obvious. And there's of course Amy Winehouse. ANOTHER big mess. I get kinda sad when I hear her song "Rehab" because you don't get talent like that every day! She had so much potential with that voice of hers but she died at only 27 years old. THAT YOUNG! To me, that's just throwing out your life.

So what DOES make these stars make such stupid choices? Stress? Publicity? Is that it? Do they think they're so amazing they can do whatever they want? I mean, take a look at Lindsay Lohan. She used to be a cute 12-year-old red head and now she's just a mess and has been in rehab three times already! Does childhood celebrity life spoil these stars and make them do whatever they want?

I just don't get it...

I'm sorry I've been reduced to a couch potato

Finally, the one week vacation I've been anxious for has finally arrived. I've been wanting this vacation for a loooong time and now it's finally come. It's only Sunday and it's already been a good vacation... I know it's probably gonna get sucky when I gotta do some homework which honestly is super easy.

Saturday was a rehearsal day so I went to help the guys to build the set which we need three different sets for the three acts of The Boyfriend. Had to leave for an hour for a dentist appointment for a quick cleaning and came back.

Our set's looking good so far with the progress we got and I hope we keep that up until the musical opens next month. Hopefully we'll still have people come in to help because the past week was NO fun without help.

I was stuck one day without help until 4:30 and even when someone came we had nothing to do because for the most part, we need the table saw to work with and only one guy knows how to use it and he was stuck doing an English project without telling anyone else. On top of which, people who signed up for set building AREN'T showing up, but it's part of their grade with them being a part of the drama class. So jokes on them. We had some guys show up on Thursday but they're only able to work with us on Thursdays... We also have a sign up sheet where people put their names AND numbers on them, so I texted them to show up and only ONE guy responded and he said "Nope". Think I'm happy cause of that? Of course not. Maybe I'll try calling them when we get back if we're not getting anything done...

But I digress.

After rehearsal, Marina did a bit of shopping at TJ Maxx and we went to a Chinese place in Gilroy for dinner which was amazing! I ordered Vermicelli Duck Curry Soup and it was spicy heaven! I've never had duck before and it was really delicious. After dinner, we went to Barnes and Noble where I purchased The Hunger Games! Everyone's been saying that it's good so I thought I'd check it out especially with the movie coming out next month and obviously the book is always better than the movie.

Hey is it weird that I want to check out Twilight and just read it to see what's so great about it? I'm just curious...

Anyway, today I did absolutely nothing but sit on the couch like the vegetable I am.

As for plans for the rest of my vacation, I'll be seeing The Secret World of Arrietty with friends as a group thing for Anime and Manga club. And... that's pretty much it.

XOXO,
Liz

Must.... Type!

Ugh... Five days and it feels like forever since I posted anything! These school days are slowly starting to feel longer as the semester starts drawing to a close.

Superbowl party went off with a hit. Had all of our friends over and watched the game. Congrats to the Giants winning. And we STILL have a crap ton of leftovers...God I don't want to take those for lunch tomorrow. Just got off the stuff and I don't think my mom wants to load more food in our fridges. Nothing like taco meat and lasagna eh?

But I digress.

Slow week has been slow as we're starting to think of what classes to take next year. Here's what I'm considering for my six classes for the next year.
  • American Literature AP
  • US History AP
  • (Spanish AP?)
  • Physics
  • Pre-Calculus/Trigonometry
  • Advanced Art
Now I have Spanish AP in parentheses with a question mark cause I'm still considering to take said class. Now I could just take it Senior year but I'd have to take something in place of that class. My chemistry teacher did say he was going to recommend me for Chemistry AP but I don't want to have too many advanced course classes on my plate. I'm already in Advanced English 10 and I want to take AP US History because regular World History is beyond easy. Add on a difficult math course and an advanced art class, it's quite a lot isn't it? Still thinking of what to take...

A couple weeks ago, our advisory classes filled out little surveys that give us our Valentine's matches. Of course it's not based off of anything to really be in a relationship with someone and shouldn't be taken seriously. But I bought one to humor myself with whoever I got. As did my friends. It's really a fundraiser thing, and it's a cute idea. And my results were as expected: a bunch of people I don't know with an exception of a few friends. Someone filled theirs out as Justin Bieber and I got them on the opposite section so I thought that was hilarious.

The matchmaker also includes some trivia like how many days old you are and what happened in history the day you were born. Apparently my birthday is the same day as the national day of Norway (which Jamie spazzed about because she loves Norway from Hetalia). They even included who would be your celebrity match based on the Western zodiac.
  1. Tommy Lee Jones
  2. Prince Harry (of Wales)
  3. Jim Carrey (Ewww he has a daughter my age!)
  4. Kid Rock
  5. Kevin Costner (Almost 60)
  6. Patrick Dempsey
  7. Orlando Bloom
  8. Benjamin McKenzie (.... WHO IS HE?!)
  9. Bill Murray (Again.. Almost 60)
  10. Tom Felton (Jamie calls dibs so I can't have him)
How they came up with these random choices is beyond my imagination. But then again I just spent two bucks on this just for giggles and I got giggles so mission accomplished.

Got nothing planned for this weekend. Probably watch some anime and write a bit. Wish we had our one week off already...

XOXO,
Liz

Fat Tuesday

Our Winter Homecoming has come and gone yet it still feels like yesterday I was going deaf at the rally from a bunch of screaming girls.

Our theme for this homecoming was TV channels which was a good idea but spirit days were kinda boring cause I didn't see many people dressed up. Seniors had Nickelodeon, Juniors had CartoonNetwork, Sophomores (my class) had MTV, and Freshmen had ESPN. Spirit days in order were: PJ day, Safari day, Celeb day, Jersey day, and Mardi Gras colors day.

To be honest PJ day is the most useless spirit day EVER in this school. When they say PJ day, they mean "the Sobrato pajamas" that you have to buy. Guess how many people actually buy them? Not a lot. So on Monday I see people in those ones-ies that are oh so comfortable and the yard duties send you to the office and force you to go home and change. Also, it counts as an absence. Ugh.. ASB really needs to rethink their spirit days.

Celeb day was really hilarious cause two of my friends Travis and Lovisa dressed up as the Olsen twins. Not. Kidding. Travis had a bra, hair extensions and girls' clothes on. I'm surprised that he wanted to do something like that but it was amazing! I wish I took a picture but I didn't have my camera on me at the time.

And of course the day of the rally was quite eventful. Freshman skit: not as eye catching. Sophomore skit was pretty okay. They started singing 1985 by Bowling For Soup to represent old school MTV (when it was good) and then switched it to what they have now in the 2000's (which is now crap [sorry I don't like MTV with what crap they have on]). The dancing didn't amuse me all too much except for my friend Jon. If anything, he knew how to shake his butt better than the girls. And that's saying something! Junior skit was very, very good. They did dances from the old cartoons like Scooby-Doo and the Powerpuff Girls. I saw my friend Sara dressed up as Velma in the skit and she looked adorable and can run in heels! Senior skit was.... so-so. God I don't even remember it. Oh wait yeah, they made a remix of the Rugrats opening and I felt sad. And.... Yep it's all a blank slate.

That night I went to the school's annual Mardi Gras dance. Yep, instead of a Sweetheart Dance for Valentine's Day, we do a Fat Tuesday Dance. Mardi Gras is supposed to be the best dance out of all of them and they're right. In this dance they have a chocolate fountain where you can put in strawberries, pretzels and all sorts of other goodies in, and they have Black Jack tables, Roulette, Craps, and a Wheel of Fortune. And of course at the other end of the gym there's the DJ and "dancing" but I spent my time playing Black Jack and eating from the chocolate fountain.

I know how to play Black Jack and let me tell you, it's quite addicting. The second round I was playing I got two aces so I played the two separately, and guess what I got when I hit both of those once? A Jack and a Queen. How lucky can you get to get two 21's? Pretty damn lucky I figured. That was only the beginning of my luck. As I was waiting for Jamie to stop playing Wheel of Fortune, a random guy came up to me with all these chips in his hand and he went, "Hey, do you want these?". In disbelief, I said, "Are you serious?". Turns out he was and I took about six thousand dollars in chips from this very generous guy. Now THAT is just plain freaking lucky. So I split this massive amount of chips between me and Jamie and we keep playing to our hearts content! By the time all the games closed there was not much else to do so I went home and watched a bit of Sweeney Todd before going to bed.

As for today, my room looks the neatest it's been in ages. I was able to get the old TV set that's been sitting in my room and collecting dust out and get some pictures hung up. I really wanna have my own artwork displayed and I tried using these adhesives that are some sort of clay/Silly Putty material that stick to the wall and stick to whatever you're hanging up. Yeah, they don't work. Not just because the paper I created my artwork on is heavy, but those adhesives just eventually fall off. DON'T. BUY. THEM. They suck. Well anyway my room looks neat and like a human being lives there so that's a good thing. Still have some clothes to sort out and find which pairs of jeans I have still fit me. But overall, I say it was a success.

Now my mom is decorating and cooking for tomorrow's Superbowl party! We're gonna have about 30 people come over along with some small fluffy puppies who will be running a-muck the household. I guess who's cheering for who is whatever but the bright side is that the cake will be decorated in red, white and blue icing so we don't have to choose sides. Still a disappointment that the 49ers didn't make it to this Superbowl. Oh well.

Time to chill for the rest of the night in my favorite comfy pajamas.

XOXO,
Liz
